Confession

May 11, 2025    Dave Fischer

In our second sermon in the series "ACTS - A Pattern of Prayer", we looked at the importance of confession for maintaining healthy fellowship with God. In Psalm 32 David records his personal experience with the burden of carrying unconfessed sin and the blessing that comes when we confess.

The Blessing of Confession: Ps 32:1-2,5 Confession brings blessings from God. When we acknowledge our sins and seek forgiveness, God does not hold our transgressions against us. This act of confession restores our fellowship with God and allows us to experience His grace and mercy.

The Burden of Unconfessed Sin: Ps 32:3-4 David highlights the heavy burden that unconfessed sin places on us. Unconfessed sin can lead to physical and emotional distress. It can cloud our minds, hinder our prayers (1Peter 4:7), and impact our relationship with God and others (1Peter 3:7).

A Blueprint for Confession: Practical steps for confession include agreeing with God about our sins, confessing everything we are aware of as soon as we are aware of it, doing so humbly, and seeking forgiveness from God and also one another. (Ps 139:23-24; PS 32:3; Dan 9:3-5; Ps 51:4; James 5:16; 1 Jn 1:9)

Let's together make confession a regular part of our prayer life and enjoy the blessing of our fellowship with God.

I hope these points help you reflect on the importance of confession in your prayer life. If you have any questions or would like to discuss further, please feel free to reach out.
