From beginning to the end, 1 John has been about Jesus. Our faith is rooted and centered on the person and work of Jesus. He is the reason we gather. He and he alone is worthy of our trust. He shed his blood for our sins (1:7), He is our advocate and propitiation (2:1-2), He is the true Christ (2:22; 5:1) in flesh (4:2-3), he is the Savior of the world (4:14), he is the Son of God (4:15). Christianity revolves around Jesus. Our lives revolve around Jesus. Our relationships revolve around Jesus. We believe because he has made known to us the Father.
This is eternal life, that we may know the Father, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom the Father has sent (John 17:3). In believing and trusting we are assured and have certainty of eternal life, acceptance, spiritual protection, adoption, and communion. This is the greatest news ever!!! There is nothing outside of Jesus and the gospel that will satisfy us or grant us certainty.
So, will you trust; will you believe in the Son? Or will you turn to idols? To false ways of living? Will you delight in the Son and the assurance he grants? Or will you live in internal turmoil not having anything or anyone to anchor you?
All of 1 John is built upon the question of faith. Faith in the Son, which leads to faithfulness to the Father, which builds fellowship among God and his people through the inner working of the Spirit. “There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). Milestone prays that you and I would be rooted in the Son today, tomorrow, and for evermore.
